What is Coaching?
Simply put, coaching is the act of facilitating positive change in someone's life.
Professionally trained and certified coaches provide an ongoing partnership and use specific tools, structures, frameworks and approaches designed to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Unlike consultants who make recommendations or therapists who seek reasons to explain behavior, coaches help people think for themselves, clarify their goals, and move toward achieving them. Coaches are trained to listen, observe, and customize their approach to each person; to provide support and resources to help clients reach their goals; and to remain solution-focused and put a client's agenda first.
Where does Coaching take place?
Coaching can take place by phone or in person. The choice depends on the individual, the coach, and the type of coaching involved.
Most corporate coaching takes place on-site or face-to-face with the client. Business coaching typically takes place at the client's office or work-site. Life coaching can take place in someone's office, in a café, in nature, on the phone, or in nearly any location that supports a confidential coaching conversation.
Coaching conversations usually last between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the coach's structure or method and on the client's schedule and goals. A typical coaching engagement will include regular sessions that occur over a range of 3 to 4 months to upward of 12 to 18 months (for higher level goals or corporate engagements)
